DEPARTMENT OF THEORY AND METHODOLOGY OF SPORT WRESTLING

The Department of Theory and Methodology of National and International Wrestling Styles was established in 1956 at the initiative of the Uzbekistan Committee for Physical Culture and Sports within the structure of the Uzbek State Institute of Physical Culture. Over the years, the department operated under the name “Theory and Methodology of National and International Wrestling Styles.”

In accordance with the tasks set by the Resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PQ-3306 dated October 2, 2017, “On Measures for Further Development of the National Sport Kurash,” the Presidential Decree No. PF-5368 dated March 5, 2018, “On Measures for Radical Improvement of the System of State Administration in the Sphere of Physical Culture and Sports,” and other relevant normative-legal documents, and following the Charter of the Uzbek State University of Physical Culture and Sports, the department was reorganized into two independent units:
— The Department of Theory and Methodology of International Wrestling Styles,
— The Department of Theory and Methodology of National Sports and Games.

From the beginning of the 2018–2019 academic year, the Department of Theory and Methodology of International Wrestling Styles was led by Associate Professor N.A. Tastanov as Acting Head. In May 2019, Alisher Jumanazarovich Tangriev was appointed Head of the Department based on competitive selection and continued his activities in this position. From May 2020 to January 2023, the department was headed by Shukhrat Arslon ugli Arslonov. In September 2023, the judo specialization was separated from the department. From January 2023 to February 29, 2024, Sarvar Qahramonovich Adilov served as Head of the Department of Theory and Methodology of International Wrestling Styles. From March to October 2024, the department was headed by an international specialist — Georgiy Valeryevich Korobeynikov. From October 2024 to September 2025, Sarvar Qahramonovich Adilov again performed the duties of department head.

According to the Charter of the Uzbek State University of Physical Culture and Sports, the department was restructured into two independent units:
— The Department of Theory and Methodology of Sport Wrestling,
— The Department of Theory and Methodology of Judo and Sambo.

Since the beginning of the 2025–2026 academic year, the Department of Theory and Methodology of Sport Wrestling has been headed by Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences (DSc), Professor Sarvar Qahramonovich Adilov.

At the Department of Theory and Methodology of Sport Wrestling, regular academic teaching is provided in both full-time and part-time programs in the following disciplines: “Introduction to Sport Specialization,” “Organization of Training at the Initial Preparation Stage,” “Theory and Methodology of the Selected Sport,” “Organization of Training at the Educational-Training Stage,” “Planning and Refereeing in the Selected Sport,” “Organization of Training at the Stage of Improving Sports Mastery,” “Scientific-Methodological Activity in the Sport,” and “Organization of Training at the Highest Sports Mastery Stage.” Lectures and practical classes in these subjects are conducted by qualified professors and instructors of the department in accordance with approved curricula and syllabi. These learning activities aim to deepen theoretical knowledge and enhance practical skills at all stages of athlete preparation, as well as to form effective, scientifically grounded methods of organizing the modern sports training process. To date, the department’s faculty members have published more than 20 textbooks and teaching manuals, 5 copyrighted scientific-methodological products, over 50 methodological guides and recommendations, and more than 120 scientific articles and conference abstracts. The academic backgrounds, scientific degrees, titles, and specialties of the faculty fully correspond to the department’s profile. The department's staff consists of 11.5 positions distributed as follows: 1 head of department, 3 professors, 5 senior lecturers, and 8 lecturers. Currently, 13 full-time instructors, 4 part-time lecturers, and 1 laboratory/office manager are employed.

Usmonova,A.B. Azizov, D.I. Mansurov,V.O. Temirov,Sh.M. Djumanov,D.F. Karshiyev,S.E. Usmonov, E.S. Gaipov. The department also includes an office/laboratory manager — D.E. Karimberdiyev. The department maintains ongoing scientific-methodological cooperation with physical education institutes and academies of the Commonwealth of Independent States, as well as with relevant departments of other higher educational institutions. To further develop the department’s scientific potential, a modern research laboratory equipped with advanced scientific and medical equipment is planned to be established. Since 1990, the department has offered the specialization “Sports Activity” (Greco-Roman wrestling and freestyle wrestling), and beginning with the 2024–2025 academic year, a specialization in women's wrestling has also been introduced. Currently, 358 highly qualified future specialists are being trained in these programs.
