Matkarimov Rashid Masharipovich – The Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor, the Rector of the Uzbek State University of Physical Education and Sports.
Scientific and practical activities
Matkarimov Rashid Masharipovich was born in 1971 in the city of Khiva, Khorezm region, in the family of intellectuals. In 1988-1992, he studied at the Uzbek State Institute of Physical Education, in the Department of “Weightlifting”. In 1992-1993, he worked as a trainee-researcher at the Scientific and Methodological Laboratory of the Uzbek State Institute of Physical Education, and in 1993-1995, he was a postgraduate student at the Tashkent State Pedagogical Institute.
In 1995-2000, he worked as a coach and head coach of the weightlifting team of the Republican School of Sports Wrestlers, and in 2000-2003, he was the head of the Department of “Weightlifting and Cycling” of the Uzbek State Institute of Physical Education, as well as the head coach of the Uzbek national team.
In 2003-2004, he was the Head of the Department of “Higher Sports Achievements” of the State Committee for Physical Education and Sports of Uzbekistan, in 2004-2006, he was the Head of the Department of Olympic and Sports Reserves of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan, in 2006-2010, he worked as an associate professor, head of the department and dean of the Department of “Weightlifting and Cycling” of the State Institute of Physical Education of Uzbekistan.
In 2010-2013, he was the Head of the Department of Olympic and Sports Resources of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan, in 2013-2017, he was the Head of the Department for the Development of the Olympic Movement of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan, in 2017-2018, he was the Head of the Department of the Distance Education Faculty of the Uzbekistan State Institute of Physical Education, in 2018-2019, he was the Head of the Department of Weightlifting, Cycling, Equestrian Sports Theory and Methodology, and also Vice-Rector for Science and Innovations.
In 2020-2023, he was the Director of the Institute of Physical Education and Sports Research, and in 2023-2024, he was the Head of the Department for the Development of Olympic and Paralympic Sports of the Ministry of Youth Policy and Sports. Since 2024, he has been working as the rector of the Uzbekistan State University of Physical Education and Sports.
Scientific activity
Matkarimov Rashid Masharipovich successfully defended his candidate dissertation in 1999 on the topic “Optimal ratios of training loads and intensity of mass-level weightlifters”, and in 2022 he successfully defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic “Scientific and theoretical foundations of the multi-level training of highly qualified weightlifters”.

His scientific works have been translated into various foreign languages and are widely used internationally.
Awards and recognitions
1999 – honorary title of “Sports Teacher for Merit in Uzbekistan”, medals “20th Anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan” and “25th Anniversary”, breastplate “Excellent Physical Education and Sports Worker”.
Scientific leadership and international cooperation
Over 50 graduate qualifications, over 50 master's theses defended under supervision, 5 candidate of pedagogical sciences, 9 PhD theses defended, official opponent for doctoral candidates in pedagogical sciences and reviewer at scientific seminars.
In 2019, elected Corresponding Member of the Petrovsky Academy of Sciences and Arts of the Russian Federation. At the same time, he is a member of the Scientific Committee of the International Weightlifting Federation and has refereed a number of prestigious competitions as an international weightlifting referee.
